Ellie Writes: Visiting a Shrine

A shrine is where you go and pray or make a wish. You enter through
the big tori, or gate, like a T-shaped arch. First you go to the water
area and pour some water on your hands to get clean. Go to the shrine
and then throw a coin in a box to wake up the spirits. Then you ring a
big bell to wake up more spirits. Then you clap twice, bow, and make
your wish. My wish was that my Minnie Mouse slippers would still be
at the inn that I'm staying at (I'll tell you about that another
time.) and my wish came true! I want to go again and again so I can
make more wishes.
